A classic vanilla cake perfect for celebrating an 80th birthday with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • Frosting of your choice (e.g., buttercream, cream cheese)
  • Decorative elements (e.g., candles, flowers, custom messages)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, frost with your desired frosting and decorate with elements for an 80th birthday celebration.

Notes

For a twist, try almond extract instead of vanilla or add citrus zest. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
